Comeback Considerations

Outside of our Galant VR4 brethren, the fame and excitement of One Lap 2009 is fading.
Looking back on what was a 4 month project we chuckle at the amount of exposure we brought to our adventure. Taking what I know of online marketing and tapping into a few viral veins of car junkies out there, we by far brought more online exposure to the event than anybody else. The exposure, immediate fan base along with a positive attitude, landed us in Motor Trend. We has more visual representation than the team who one the event.
Of course we want to do it again, but the challenges seem to be lining up. I managed to lose my job in June, putting myself in a financially sensative position to commit to the team again. The 2009 one lap was supposed to be the final send off from my world of Galant VR4 ownership. After owning 4 of them, I have found a new love in the seat of the Evo X. So now I own part of a car that has really becomes somebody else’s baby.

I can hop in the Evo X and take it on One Lap. I had many moments when I wish I had it this year. Unfortunately I can’t hand the keys over to anybody to co-drive. I just can’t.
The Galant VR4 remains in the contention as being the only co-driver platform we have, but it needs work. It needs a race prepped transmission, a chassis and suspension overhaul, and a motor/turbo combination that will get us the power we need.
So while I leave you not knowing any more than you did when you started reading, consider this. Four guys put a 17 year old car together in 4 months and ran competitive enough to give us 13th place if we didn’t get the bogus DNF bumping us to 20th. Recognize that we have had thousands of visitors share this adventure with us and we made it into Motor Trend magazine. We have people contacting us from around the globe as far as Taiwan.

Know that IF we try to make this happen again, we will need some big sponsors to help us out. We couldn’t have made it happen at all this year without sponsors.  Financially we almost had enough to pay for the entry fee…almost.  Buying the parts for the car, the required tires, safety gear, along with trip expenses itself was all out of our pockets. Luckily we have shown that we can bring the sponsors some big exposure with this years adventure. Hopefully somebody is listening.

Of course with us displaying the big diamond on the hood, Mitsubishi really should consider giving us a new Evo X MR for a few months.  We will bring it back with a trophy in it for you.
