BC Racing Coilovers Installed on the OneLap EvoX

The BC Racing ER Series Coilovers from Darkside Engineering are now installed!

Chris and I spent Saturday working on getting the coilovers installed.  The BC Racing coilovers are definitely a quality set of coilovers.  They offer both spring preload perches as well as lower mount/body adjustments independent of each other.  The ER series we have for the EvoX include remote reservoirs that connect to the main shock body at the bottom end via a small braided stainless-steel high-pressure connector.  The adjusters are easy to manipulate for both rebound and bound ( compression ) and the entire unit is well constructed.  Definitely looks good at first glance.  But how would they perform? And how easy would they be to install?

We’ll post up a full review once we have finalized the install and done our install inspection after the entire system has settled. We still have to finish corner weighting and finalizing the camber/toe settings which will happen this upcoming weekend.   Chris is already getting the feel of having a real coilover suspension after riding on Eibach drop springs for a while.

For now, enjoy some teaser pics below!

Hey Chris, I was wondering how it felt getting used to the coilover setup so far. From the experience I’ve had with my Eibach/Tokico setup (4 years) I’ve liked it pretty well for daily driving. Obviously the BCs will make it much easier to setup the car, but how do you like it compared to your Eibachs?

What do you see as the main differences in ride feel? Response? Stiffness?

  2. Well my old setup was Eibach springs with stock shocks. Overall they were ok handling but I noticed that on bumpy surfaces they would feel somewhat bouncy since you were dipping into the stiffer portion of the progressive spring rates and the stock shocks would be at the limits trying to control them. Ride feel was decent and comfortable and you really only noticed a difference over stock when hitting speed bumps or really rough roads.

The BC Racing ER series Coilovers with 10k/10k springs are very comfortable on smooth roads. You definitely start to feel they are a stiffer ride on moderate to rough roads but the handling is on a whole new level. With the initial street friendly compression and rebound settings at 10 out of 30 they are livable on the streets while delivering very responsive handling.

My biggest complaint with the old Eibach springs was that you could enter a sweeping S turn and start to lose front traction and then after your nose starts settling it would turn in suddenly. Now the car stays much more stable and flat so that sudden body motions don’t upset the car as much. It also has that excellent turn-in feel all the time now and once I get used to it with the zero toe settings it will be awesome for track handling.
