FP Evo X Green Survival Tests

FP Evo X Green Survival Tests

There are plenty of humble conversations that go on behind the scenes.  One of the fondest and perhaps the most painful ones was when I asked Robert at Forced Performance for help, because we thought we had blown the turbo. Not that I wanted to blow the turbo, but it sounded less painful than blowing the engine in my head.  I told Robert what happened believing that the turbo may have let go.  He calmly replied, “Sorry about your motor, my turbo is fine”, ending the conversation.

Our friends at Forced Performance posted a video online today showing some of the testing that goes on with their turbochargers.  While the video is not the most entertaining thing to watch for 20 minutes, the content of what is happening is.  Forced Performance took their Evo X Green BB turbo and ran it on their simulator at 125k RPM with a 1700 F turbine inlet temperature without a single hesitation.

It is sometimes hard to put into words what makes a part ready to survive One Lap.  Indestructible sounds about right.  The more we see how much goes into the setup of these turbos, the easier it is to explain why we feel comfortable running the Forced Performance turbos in the car for One Lap of America, as they seem to be one of the only ones who plan for their turbos to survive.

After burning the car to a crisp, beating the snot out of the car at Watkins Glen, and even blowing an engine, the Forced Performance Evo X Green was the one thing that never faltered.

Every turbo does not survive the tests.

Here are some pictures we kept off the internet until now.   When Tim and I were stranded in South Carolina, we helped tear out the failed turbo of the Igloo car, so we could help get them on the road.  These are NOT of our car, but gave us a harsh reminder on how all turbo setups are not designed to endure this epic journey.
