Sean Caron
One Lap of America Team Driver 2010
Sean’s love of speed showed itself early in life. Born in Europe and raised as an Army brat hopping from country to country until the age of 10, his love of all things fast was evident regardless if it was a running on foot, racing down hills on bikes, or riding along in his father’s sports cars. When he finally reached the United States at 10 years old, the seed for racing cars was already planted. Sean spent the rest of his childhood in his adopted home town in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York learning all the skills that would come in handy when given the opportunity to participate in organized motorsports.
The first opportunity was presented when Sean moved to Rochester, New York to study Mechanical Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology. While visiting the campus before his first year, he spotted a group of cars running at fairly high speeds through a parking lot. Interest piqued, he took a closer look and discovered the local SCCA club running a Solo2 event, also known as Autocross. Through a few friends who were involved, he was able to try out the event for himself and was instantly hooked.
He participated for a year or two, borrowing rides and co-driving other people’s cars, until Sean found the car he wanted to start campaigning, a 1996 White Eagle Talon TSI AWD. This led him to the local DSM club and to a bunch of like minded souls. Over the next few years, as the car morphed and was modified and as Sean participated in more and more events, in came the event wins and championships in 2 different regions including trophy finishes at multiple events on the SCCA Solo2 National Tour. The years of constant racing took its toll on the Talon however and eventually it was time for a new platform for autocrossing and HPDE’s which lead him to buy a 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution IX.
Sean lives in Rochester, New York with his extra-ordinarily understanding wife Michelle and 2 young children. His passion for racing and modifying cars lives on with the Evo along with a passion for playing sports such as golf and soccer. He works as an IT Manager at a local Rochester-based Telecommunications provider.
