Captain Chaos
When I tell people that I am on the One Lap of America, They don’t always understand what that is. When I mention the Cannonball Run, everybody immediately knows what I am referring to..
I personally wouldn’t have known anything about the race if it wasn’t for the movie. Certainly the most entertaining character in the film was Captain Chaos. As a kid, the movie was so goofy and off the wall that you had to love it.
I am having an amazing trip which roots came from that movie. I was saddened to find out Dom Deluise died while I was on this trip.
Thanks Dom for making me love the movie as a kid and allowing me to live the adventure as an adult.
Sebring Round 2
We are back in the car heading up to Gainsville for drag racing.
Tim had some brake loss near the end of the first session, so we startedh bleeding brakes to try and recover some pressure. All went smooth until we noticed a wet drivers brake line. One of the many pieces on our to-do list, but luckily we had the spare ready to go in. A little persuasion and we got the old line off and back on before we were called to grid.
I was able to broadcast some video from the paddock, but definately didn’t have time to do a production level report like I was first thinking. I can see why a few teams brought a crew only for media work.
Our exit strategy needs improving. We attracted a croud of Mitsubishi friends, a few from team NABR and a few just local guys. It is hard to break up guys talking cars, but we had to bail to head to Gainsville.
Huge thanks again for the staff at the East Rochester public libray for sponsoring us today. Without their support we wouldn’t have gotten here today.
Moroccan Gold Team Speeding
We have been talking with the guys from Team Moroccan Gold Imports quite a bit on this trip. Tim saw the Motor Trend blog last night that they were busted for a speeding ticket. They never new the Motor Trend guys where there to snap the photo until we told them this morning.
Sometimes it sucks being the slow guy with the trailer. Sometimes it’s not so bad being the slow guy.
They have been a great group of guys, so adding the extra ribbing onto them, and away from our off-road excursion has been a welcome change.
0Made it to Sebring
We made it to Sebring!
Happy Cinco de Mayo. Today we are here because the staff at the East Rochester Public library got us here with a sponsorship. I admittingly haven’t read much since this trip started, as we have been active non stop.
The drive was definately long, but we welcomed the smooth roads of Florida. Hauling the trailer is a necessity for us, but a curse at times.
Everything I own is wet, but drying out quickly. The temperature is hot, but we have a paddock and life is nice for the next hour. Once Tim gets on track again, we need to pack and go.
Tim ran the car this morning around Sebring. We are looking like 2:45 lap times, which isn’t the quickest, but expected for the first time out. It is a large intimidating track at times, where getting in trouble means a wall, so we are learning safely.
The AMS Subaru overheated and blew the motor this morning. He has a stock radiator, so we are grateful we have the new AFCO in place.
We are bleeding brakes, swapping plugs and getting ready for second runs now.
We are eating through methanol and will need to send out some delivery favors if we hope to have full boost for Datona.
